Thank you for your interest in
Dover Grammar School for Boys. The School is marked by a continuity and
stability endowed by the long service and dedication of its staff. The
intent of the previous four Headmasters is maintained, that of providing a
happy and ordered community in which boys may grow into courteous and
responsible young men who leave the School having achieved their best,
well equipped for higher education and employment. Old Boys have served
and continue to serve with distinction in all walks of life. They remain
loyal to the School and through their Old Pharosians Association they
offer constant support.
Each day begins for the whole School with Assembly in the Great Hall with
its fine organ. In this as in other parts of our work importance is given
to developing spiritual and moral values. Above all we emphasise the
importance of personal integrity and consideration for others. The
physical situation of the School, with its commanding view over the town,
port and Straits of Dover, serves as a constant reminder of our closeness
to other European countries and of the need to foster in our students an
understanding of the world in which we live.
We maintain a high standard of achievement in all areas of our broad and
balanced curriculum. The general expectation of our boys is to attain the
highest grades in a full range of GCSE subjects. Most then go on into the
Sixth Form and through higher education into leadership roles in commerce,
industry and the professions. Beyond the purely academic aspects of the
work we nurture the virtues needed for success in whatever field our
students choose.
We hope that the account given in this prospectus encourages you to seek
information at first hand. You will always be welcome to come and see us
when we will gladly show you any aspect of our school life you care to
observe and answer any questions you care to pose. We run special sessions
for prospective parents and students. Please see the appendix for details
of these and the other arrangements for admission. If you are unable to
come at any of the special times allocated then we shall be happy to make
an alternative arrangement to suit you. |
